About Mizuho PayPay Dome
Opened in 1993 as Fukuoka Dome — the first stadium in Japan with a fully retractable roof. Home of the SoftBank Hawks (formerly the Daiei Hawks, before that the Nankai Hawks of Osaka). Naming rights have shifted with corporate sponsorships: Yahoo Dome, Yafuoku Dome, PayPay Dome, and now Mizuho PayPay Dome. The Hawks dynasty of the late 2010s — five Japan Series titles in seven years — was built here.
Fun facts
- The retractable roof opens about 20 minutes before first pitch on clear days.
- Adjacent to the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk hotel, connected by a covered walkway.
- Hawks fans are known for the "Iizo iizo Softbank" chant, one of the most coordinated in NPB.
