About Meiji Jingu Stadium
Built in 1926 as part of the Meiji Jingu Outer Gardens, Jingu is the second-oldest stadium in NPB. Home of the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, it has a uniquely intimate, retro feel — natural grass, exposed steel beams, and a skyline view that lights up dramatically during evening games. Famously hosted Babe Ruth on his 1934 barnstorming tour and is a candidate for redevelopment in the coming decade.
Fun facts
- Located in the Meiji Jingu Outer Gardens, surrounded by zelkova trees and historic architecture.
- Currently slated for demolition and replacement as part of a redevelopment project — the next several years may be the last to see the original Jingu.
- Swallows fans famously open umbrellas during the 7th-inning "Tokyo Ondo" cheer, regardless of weather.
