About Kyocera Dome Osaka
Opened in 1997 as Osaka Dome, this distinctive curved-roof stadium replaced the demolished Osaka Stadium. Home of the Orix Buffaloes (formed from a merger of the Orix BlueWave and Kintetsu Buffaloes in 2004). Also serves as the Hanshin Tigers' substitute home during August, when Koshien is occupied by the National High School Baseball Championship — a quirky annual arrangement that's been in place for decades.
Fun facts
- Named for Kyocera, the Kyoto-based ceramics and electronics company, since 2006.
- The roof has a distinctive saddle shape unlike the rounder profiles of other Japanese domes.
