About Martin Park
Martin Park — named for the Martin brothers, the African-American physician-businessmen who owned it — was one of the few Negro League stadiums owned and operated entirely within the Black community. The Memphis Red Sox played here from 1929 until folding in 1960, becoming one of the most stable and longest-running franchises in Negro American League history. The stadium's capacity was modest but the venue's significance to Beale Street–era Memphis was outsized; the site is now part of the FedExForum arena complex (home of the Memphis Grizzlies) in downtown Memphis.
