About Muehlebach Field / Municipal Stadium

Kansas City Municipal Stadium — known across its 50-year run as Muehlebach Field, Ruppert Stadium (no relation to Newark), and Blues Stadium — was the Kansas City Monarchs' home for over three decades and the most important Negro League venue west of the Mississippi. The Monarchs won the FIRST Negro World Series here in 1924, employed Jackie Robinson for his lone Negro League season in 1945, and across their history sent more players to MLB than any other Negro League team (including Robinson, Ernie Banks, Satchel Paige, and Elston Howard). After the Monarchs left in 1955, the venue continued as the Athletics' MLB home (1955-1967) and the Royals' early MLB home (1969-1972).
