About ES CON Field Hokkaido
Opened in 2023, ES CON Field is the newest stadium in NPB and the most ambitious destination ballpark Japan has built. The Nippon-Ham Fighters left the city-owned Sapporo Dome to build this privately-funded park outside Sapporo, anchored by an entire entertainment village ("F Village") featuring hot springs, hotels, restaurants, a brewery, and a kids' park. Famously controversial: NPB granted a special exception for its slightly-out-of-spec foul-line geometry, since rebuilding would have been impractical.
Fun facts
- The on-site brewery, Sorachi 1984, is the first MLB-or-NPB ballpark with a working microbrewery on site.
- Has a hot spring (onsen) overlooking the field — bathers can watch the game from the water.
- The roof is partially openable; cold-weather games against Sapporo's climate were a major design constraint.
