About Ebbets Field

Ebbets Field was the beloved home of the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1913 until their departure to Los Angeles after the 1957 season. Situated in the Flatbush neighborhood, the intimate ballpark was known for its quirky dimensions, a concave right-field wall, and an outfield scoreboard that kept fans engaged between innings.

The park became hallowed ground on April 15, 1947, when Jackie Robinson took the field as the first African-American player in the modern major leagues, breaking baseball's color barrier. The Dodgers won six National League pennants while calling Ebbets Field home, and the stadium's demolition in 1960 became a symbol of loss for Brooklyn fans everywhere.

The site is now occupied by the Ebbets Field Apartments, a housing development, but the memory of Ebbets Field lives on as one of the most storied venues in American sports history.
