About Forbes Field

Forbes Field, nestled in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood adjacent to the University of Pittsburgh, was the first entirely steel-and-concrete ballpark in baseball. When it opened on June 30, 1909, it was considered the finest sports venue in America.

The park witnessed some of baseball's most dramatic moments across six decades, including Bill Mazeroski's legendary walk-off home run in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series — the only Game 7 walk-off homer in Series history. Babe Ruth hit the last three home runs of his career here in 1935.

Part of the original outfield wall still stands on the University of Pittsburgh campus, and the exact spot where Mazeroski's home run cleared the wall is marked with a plaque, making it a pilgrimage site for baseball fans.
