About Dyckman Oval

Located at Nagle Avenue and 204th Street in upper Manhattan's Inwood neighborhood, Dyckman Oval was the de facto home of Latin American baseball in New York during the 1920s and 1930s — primarily under the ownership of Alex Pompez, the Cuban-American executive who built it into a multi-sport venue hosting Negro League baseball, soccer matches, boxing, and Pompez's signature Cuban Stars and New York Cubans franchises. Martín Dihigo, perhaps the most versatile player in baseball history (he played every position including pitcher), starred here through the 1930s. The stadium was demolished in 1938 to make way for residential development.
