About Three Rivers Stadium
Three Rivers Stadium sat at the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers in Pittsburgh, giving it one of the most dramatic locations in baseball. The circular multipurpose stadium was home to the Pirates during their powerhouse years of the 1970s.
The "We Are Family" Pirates of 1979, led by Willie Stargell, won the World Series while calling Three Rivers home. Roberto Clemente collected his historic 3,000th hit here on September 30, 1972 — tragically, it would be his last regular-season hit before his death in a plane crash three months later.
Three Rivers was imploded on February 11, 2001, making way for the stunning PNC Park, now considered one of the most beautiful ballparks in America.
