About Sportsman's Park

Sportsman's Park was the shared home of the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Browns for decades, making it one of the few venues where two major-league teams coexisted. The steel-and-concrete structure at Grand and Dodier was rebuilt in 1909 and served as a cornerstone of St. Louis baseball life.

The Cardinals' many pennant-winning teams of the Gashouse Gang era played here, and the 1944 "Streetcar World Series" between the Cardinals and Browns — both tenants of Sportsman's Park — remains one of baseball's most unique events.

Bill Veeck's famous stunt of sending 3'7" Eddie Gaedel to bat for the Browns in 1951 took place here, one of the most memorable moments in baseball history. The Cardinals purchased the park in 1953 after the Browns left for Baltimore, and played there until moving to Busch Memorial Stadium in 1966.
