About Globe Life Park in Arlington

Globe Life Park in Arlington — known during its lifetime as The Ballpark in Arlington, Ameriquest Field, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, and several other names — was one of the pioneering retro-style ballparks that transformed stadium design in the 1990s. Its neo-Romanesque brick exterior, arched windows, and classic aesthetic made it a forerunner of the Camden Yards revolution, though its open-air configuration in Arlington, Texas, meant that summer afternoon games were played in conditions approaching a heat emergency.

Temperatures on the field routinely exceeded 100 degrees during July and August afternoon games, and the Rangers played through decades of brutal heat to develop a fan base that was intensely loyal. Nolan Ryan served as team president during the franchise's most successful era, and the Rangers made back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011. The 2011 Series against the St. Louis Cardinals produced one of the most agonizing moments in baseball history: the Rangers came within one strike of winning the World Series — twice in the same inning of Game 6 — before David Freese's triple tied the game and the Cardinals eventually won.

The Rangers played their final game at Globe Life Park on September 29, 2019, moving next door to the air-conditioned Globe Life Field in 2020. They finally won their first World Series in 2023 at the new park — vindicating the organization's decade of near-misses and providing closure to fans who had suffered through the 2011 heartbreak.
