About Milwaukee County Stadium

Milwaukee County Stadium was the heart of Wisconsin baseball for nearly five decades. Originally built to lure a major-league team, it succeeded spectacularly when the Boston Braves relocated to Milwaukee in 1953. The Braves' arrival sparked a baseball frenzy, as the team drew over 2 million fans in each of their first four seasons.

Hank Aaron began his legendary career here in 1954, and the Braves won the 1957 World Series — Milwaukee's greatest sports moment until the Packers dynasty. When the Braves left for Atlanta after the 1965 season, the stadium sat empty until the expansion Brewers (originally the Seattle Pilots) arrived in 1970.

County Stadium became famous for its tailgating culture — Milwaukee fans turned parking lot bratwurst grilling into an art form that remains a hallmark of Brewers fandom. The stadium closed in 2000 when the Brewers moved to Miller Park (now American Family Field).
